  • 1 tablespoon avocado oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ pound Italian sausage (ground)
  • 1 onion (diced)
  • 6 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 (14 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
  • 2 ½ cups chicken broth (low sodium)
  • 8 oz mozzarella cheese (shredded)
  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese (grated)
  • 1 teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 ½ teaspoons Kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ cup fresh parsley (chopped)

Instructions

  1. In a large heavy-bottom pot, heat avocado oil over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and Italian sausage, cooking until browned and onions are translucent.
  2. Stir in minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute.
  3. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, chicken broth, Italian seasoning, salt, black pepper, and fennel seeds. Bring to a boil and then reduce to a simmer for about 20 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan until melted.
  5. Serve hot with optional garnishes of fresh parsley or extra cheese.
